Cuisine in Hakuba Part 1

4th August, 2013

Hakuba has one of the most International selections of restaurants that you'll find in a ski resort anywhere in Japan. So much so that we had to break it into FOUR areas to cover it all!!

The Happo village area is the original accommodation and nightlife area in Hakuba dating back some 90 odd years.

One of the most popular restaurants here is Uncle Stevens Mexican with all your Tex Mex favourites, there’s the new (opened 2012/13 season) Jacks Bar in the Springs hotel serving good western style pub grub. Right beside Jacks Bar is a great little Japanese Izakaya serving cheap local fare that’s super popular with the Japanese and has picture menu’s to make ordering easy.  At the very base of the Nakiyama lifts is Bangkokya but don’t be fooled by the unassuming look of the place, this is the best Thai food around and very cheap too.  Just up the run a bit from there is Marillon for fine French dining.  Another new place is Lion Café opposite the Lawson convenience store that serves great snack foods coffees and alcohol and being one of the few places open during the day is a great place to chill with a magazine or book on a rest day. Beach bar opens till late and also has good snacks and music.  Once again there is a plethora of other places to investigate in this area including a new Indian and other new places that pop up all the time.  I am just giving you my recommendations after 17 years of exploring every nook and cranny of this great Japanese ski town.
