Happo One Resort

24th September, 2013

Regarded by many as King of the Valley Happo is located half way along said valley at the base of the biggest mountain in the Northern Alps mountain range, Mount Shirouma Dake which means “White Horse Mountain” in Japanese. Its one of the most popular resorts to visit in Hakuba and is included on the All Mountain Pass.

Happo is also the biggest resort in Hakuba, with more on-piste riding than any other ski area in town. It has the most courses, the longest runs and the most vertical lifted of all resorts in town. It boasts wide open beginner areas, expert runs, moguls and everything in between. Lately the powers that be have opened up access to some of the beautiful tree glade areas within the resort as well. Combine that with the fact that you can access some of the most insane big mountain back country right off the lifts without having to hike, unless of course you want to that is! And it’s easy to see why they ran the big mountain events of the 1998 Nagano Olympics here like the Downhill and the GS because Happo is BIG. Bigger than nearly all other resorts in Japan and like nothing you’ve ever seen in Australia or New Zealand.  You’d have to agree Happo is one of the best choices of the Hakuba resorts. Definitely first choice for skiers in Hakuba, though Happo is also a favourite of many boarders.

Another huge advantage of Happo is the proximity to many of the best hotels in town. Happo village is on the south and east side of the lifts and Wadano is on the north side so if you’re staying in either of these areas its just a short walk to the nearest lift.

Happo statistics;

•         1080m vertical lift serviced

•         26 lifts

•         700 hectares ski-able terrain

•         Steepest run 37 degrees

•         Longest run 5km

•         Site of the 1998 Olympic downhill
