Winter in Hakuba is cold...not really cold but cold enough, maybe 5 below zero....your accommodation is ready for this and provides accordingly, the skiing is great as in all Japan and when you get home at night there are things for you to do, restaurants, bars, etc.
Compare this to where I am right now, Cholla Bay Mexico, the temp today was 48 degrees!?!?! Celcius!!! No wind, no shade, and the accommodation was un-airconditioned!!! And to cap it all off Summer is the off-season so there are no people here because it's too hot and so most places are closed. This blogger was unaware this was a winter only beach resort??? They say it's really nice from October till May though...
